Hey, like everyone here, I love this movie. No need for me to say more. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone's interested in starting a list of other movies that relate to this one, or are recommended to people who enjoyed City of God. Also possibly a list of music.
Here's a few of my suggestions to begin it:
Amores Perros
Los Olvidados
The Motorcycle Diaries
Salaam Bombay
Traffic
Maria Full of Grace
Hotel Rwanda
Central Station

etc...please add more, this is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Thanks!
-J.

hello, thought you lot might appreciate these :)

city of god was brilliant!

05. 06. 11.

unfortunately, my only resource was the City of God website hence i could only put out about 14 of these (which are located at my journal).

i wouldn't mind being pointed in the right direction of a screencap gallery, though...heck, i'd put out CoG icons forever, if i did find one >.<

enjoy them if sharing!

note:
please credit 'leakypen' if sharing,
& please do not hotlink.

Oh my goodness!! I loved CITY OF  GOD!!!! I work in a Video store and everyone was talking about it and we only have 3 on Dvd and I think one on Vhs, so when the dvd came in I jumped on it, I wanted to see what all the hype was about. So I rented and LOVED IT! When ever someone came into my room I would yell at them to get the hell out!! But me being the dumbass returned it and I wanted to see it again, cuz we can keep it for 5 days!! So now I`m going to go buy it! lol Anyways does anyone know another movie like that?!

The first time I saw City Of God was way back in December but my friends would only watch up to when they hide in the forest because no one of us speak portugese but two. About 3 days ago we watched it at my boyfriends house hes full Brazilian. We wateched it with subtitles and all. I have to admit its a really good movie. Yesterday (Wednesday) my boyfriend, Leo left for Brasil for the whole summer ... me being a loser I went out and bought the movie and watched it again. Thats really all I have to say lol :D

Don't know if it's available outside of Brasil, but after the movie Cidade de Deus was launched here there was a spinoff TV series called Cidade dos Homens (City of Men) that involved the characters Acerola and Laranjinha who enacted the parts of Dadinho and File com Fritas the "terrible two" it also features Alexandre Rodrigues, Jonathan and Felipe Haagensen, Roberta Rodrigues and a lot of the others. Well it is a series set in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro but it gives you a more realistic view of what it is like to live in the communities (Cidade de Deus is a pretty shit representation hehe) But yeh I was just wondering if anyone outside of here has heard about it and if not look it up... it kicks ass.

And I'd also like to notify the people that commented on my other entry, we have raised the R$15,000 needed to set up our community radio station in Cidade de Deus, we have the station 101,9 and my show is every saturday at 13:00. Yey!

I found the journal through my favourites thing.

Well, I am a radio presenter in the Favela of Cidade de Deus and I have to say the film is ver good. But very good for a Romance, the book that the movie was based on was written as an insight into the drug trafficking that goes on in the city. Because of this it doesn't give a view of what CDD is really like which is a shame as less than 5% of the residents are involved in crime and luckily there aren't shoot outs that often.

On a lighter note, I met all the actors and they are cool. yeh. heh

So i saw cidade de deus in 2002 for the film festival and i have been waiting for it to come out on DVD ever since (on account of its the best movie EVER) and it was suppose to come out several times since finally the date was set for feb 14th or 17th and when the time came, the changed it again, now its due to be out on jun 8th, but i'm still skeptical about the whole thing because of all the changes so far. I have heard rumors that they are having trouble getting it approved for the USA, its been out for a while in the UK. If anyone knows anything on this matter please let me know, i would appreciate it immensely.
